As a yoga centre we strive to offer the finest quality food to our guests and resident community. This begins in our organic gardens where, from seed to harvest, Centre staff work the land using only natural methods to maintain soil fertility and minimise crop pests. This ensures that the kitchen starts with the purest, freshest and tastiest vegetables, fruits and herbs for their delicious recipes. Any food that is not available from the garden is purchased from sources as local as possible and is almost always organically grown. Specifically, all our dairy products, grains and beans are from organic sources. Take a peek behind the scenes of our organic garden at harvest time.

Our Yogic Diet

Our diet is lacto-vegetarian; we incorporate dairy products in moderate amounts, but do not use eggs, fish or meat of any kind. Also, in keeping with the yogic principles for a pure diet that does not overstimulate the mind, we avoid onions and garlic. With a week's notice we can offer vegan and wheat-free options. It may be possible to accommodate other, more restrictive diets but this must be approved by our head cook at least a week in advance, and cannot be guaranteed.

Beautiful food

Our delicious and nutritious meals are often the highlight of our guests' stays. They are prepared lovingly and cover a wide range of tastes and include freshly-baked muffins and granola, ethnic dishes from India, Thailand and the Mediterranean, vibrant salads with homemade dressings, and delicious desserts. The overwhelmingly positive response to our meals and the frequent requests for recipes have led to two Centre cookbooks. The second of these, Salt Spring Experience, can be purchased at the Centre or by mail.

Nourish and strengthen your body with over 100 delicious vegetarian recipes and a selection of fully illustrated yoga asanas. Stretch your mind with an introduction to yoga philosophy and the ancient health practice of Ayurveda. And feed your spirit with a playful collection of activities for fun and self-discovery.
