Advanced Group Practice Hanna Munneke 7:30AM - 9:30AM
Advanced Group Practice

Intended for yogis with an already established personal practice, these sessions offer an opportunity to practice and share in a group setting. Beginning with meditation and pranayama, followed by an asana focus that will vary each week. Ability to do headstand is a prerequisite.

Our largest space, with wooden flooring and views of the meadow - the Pond Dome is open Spring through Summer, and offers a tranquil, private setting away from the main house and gardens. A newly installed heater keeps the Pond Dome warm enough for early-morning asana practice, while the adjustable side-panels allow for breezes and fresh air to cool the space later in the day.

Hanna Munneke

Hanna fell in love with yoga around 2009. Practice became her center point amidst a busy life as the mother of 3 children. She took part in a traditional apprenticeship with teacher Cathy Valentine for 3 years, (800 hours), and became a certified Vijnana Yoga International teacher with Valentine and Orit Sen-Gupta in 2016. Hanna brings playful inquiry to her classes, while exploring the principals of quieting the mind, relaxing the body, breathing, rooting, connecting, expanding and intent. All classes include a short meditation and pranayama, with a different asana focus each week. Hanna has taught weekly classes at the Salt Spring Center since 2015.

In restorative yoga, props such as bolsters and blankets are used to fully support the body, allowing it to open slowly and naturally with no effort. Concentration is on the breath, allowing for a deep introspective class which restores energy to the body and calmness to the mind.

Cara Gracie

Cara offers a gentle, healing approach to her classes while including the use of breath as a bridge between a calm, aligned body and mind. Cara completed her 200hr Yoga Teacher Training at the Salt Spring Centre of Yoga, and also lived there for six months in the Yoga Study, Service and Immersion Program. Cara loves to inspire inner peace, strength and joy for every moment and every breath.

John Howe

“From the very first time I stepped on to my mat, I felt as if I had come home to myself.” John brings this sense of gratitude to both his practice and his teaching. His classes are challenging and fun, giving each student a chance to explore pranayama, meditation and asana. Knowing that we are both teachers and students, John shares his understanding of the transformative nature of yoga, while at the same time encourages each student to be guided by their own inner wisdom.

A balanced combination of sustained poses with attention to basic alignment and therapeutic principals. Mindfulness; observing breath and body (triputi) are an integral part of class. This style of yoga provides a great stretch and strengthens the body.

Dorothy Price

Dorothy has been a yoga practitioner for over 40 years and completed her Yoga Teacher Training at the Salt Spring Centre of Yoga in 2002. Dorothy is a senior teacher at the Centre and is also a teacher for the Centre’s Yoga Teacher Training Program. She teaches many weekly “all levels” classes on the island, as well as weekend yoga retreats and annual retreats worldwide. Dorothy’s teaching style includes sustained as well as flowing postures, with the aim of cultivating mindfulness through alignment and breath. Core strengthening and core awareness are an integral part of her classes. Her compassion for her students and her deep love of yoga are apparent in her classes. santosha-yoga-retreats.com

For the absolute beginner new to yoga or experienced beginner. This class will teach you the fundamentals of Iyengar yoga poses and prepare you for level I/II. This is yoga for everybody. All welcome.

A light-filled, carpeted space which is ideal for asana classes, workshops, and ceremonial gatherings. Our peaceful Garden House has large farm-facing windows, shared washroom facilities, and full access to yoga props.

Leigh Anne Milne

Leigh Anne Milne began her journey with Iyengar yoga in the early 1980’s and fell in love with this intelligent approach to body-mind awareness; as her practice deepened the spiritual benefits became increasingly important. As a registered massage therapist (RMT), a certified Iyengar method yoga instructor, Yoga Therapist and a recognized teacher of teachers with Yoga Alliance, Leigh Anne has found the combined knowledge of yoga, health care and anatomy of the body to be a rich foundation for her holistic practice. She has travelled to India many times since 2002 to study yoga directly from the Iyengar family. “I’m incredibly grateful for my direct experience with Mr. Iyengar.” She leads yoga retreats and professional trainings internationally www.sadhanayoga.ca Longer holdings and study of the asana (poses) cultivate the structure for the breath and take the student deeper inward. The Iyengar method of yoga is known for detail, alignment and sequencing, which ultimately work on the consciousness, moving the student towards dharana, dhyana and samadhi, embracing all eight limbs of yoga.

This class is suitable for women and men of all ages and most physical abilities. If you have major physical challenges please check with Dorothy. Discover why yoga is such a powerful tool for keeping you healthy in body, mind and spirit. Learn: basic alignment principals, including modification options; the importance of focused mind and breath; “core”, what it is and how to strengthen it; the importance of pelvic floor health and it’s relation to core.

Tara Galpin

Yoga has been an integral part of Tara’s life since 2009. Tara has completed a four-year Traditional Yoga Apprenticeship with Cathy Valentine and is a certified Vijnana Yoga teacher by Orit Sen Gupta. Through years of yoga philosophy, mediation, pranayama and asana practice, Tara has deepened her understanding of Yoga. Tara has a strong love for the body and the spirit. She lives a life dedicated to seeking truth and living in the heart.
