What Makes This Program Special?

Overview

This residential yoga teacher training intensive is based on the teachings of classical eight limbed Ashtanga and Hatha Yoga. Our 200 hour curriculum meets recommended national standards of the Yoga Alliance, an organization representing the major yoga schools in North America. This course is also modeled after the Mount Madonna Center YTT, now in its 28th year operation in Santa Cruz, California. Click here for a more detailed explanation of Classical Ashtanga Yoga.

What Makes Our YTT Program Special?

  • 17-member faculty of experienced and knowledgeable certified instructors.
  • Residential program immerses you in the teachings and practice without distraction.
  • All aspects of classical yoga are taught integrating asana, pranayama and meditation.
  • Delivered in two segments allowing time for absorbing and integrating the practice into your regular life in between.
  • Practice yoga in nature surrounded by the serene natural beauty of Canada's west coast.
  • Incredible organic meals using produce from our gardens.
  • Course Objective

This foundation program systematically deepens your experience and understanding of the philosophical roots and diverse practices of the classical Ashtanga* and Hatha Yoga traditions. All aspects of Yoga are taught as a physical and spiritual discipline, uniting body, breath and mind. Develop skills to teach a beginning yoga class in the three areas of pranayama (classical breathing practices), meditation and asana (postures). Through the interactive nature of this program, you build a supportive network, learning from one another as well as from the experienced faculty. * This program is not the same as Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga as taught by students of K. Pattabhi Jois.

    Who Should Attend

    Serious Students
Our yoga teacher training program offers instruction in beginning and intermediate levels of pranayama, meditation and asanas. It is ideal for people of all ages and abilities who want to immerse themselves in a residential program to deepen their understanding and practice of yoga. It is also ideal for those who want to develop the foundation skills to become a yoga teacher. A flexible body free of injuries is not a prerequisite for this training nor is it essential that you want to become a yoga teacher. Due to the intensive nature of this training it is not suitable to anyone new to yoga.

    Yoga Teachers
For those who would like to teach, or for those who are already teaching, this course is designed to expand your knowledge of the theory and practices of yoga as well as to develop and enhance your teaching skills.

    About the Centre

Just off Canada's beautiful west coast close to Vancouver and Victoria, lies Salt Spring Island, British Columbia. Here, sitting peacefully in the very heart of the island, amid 70 acres of meadows, forests and organic gardens, lies the Salt Spring Centre of Yoga.

The Centre is operated by the Dharma Sara Satsang Society, based in Vancouver and on Salt Spring Island. Established in 1981, the Centre has been host to many workshops, programs and retreats, and has published two vegetarian cookbooks. In addition, Chikitsa Shala Wellness Centre offers massage and Ayurvedic treatments. Our group's talents and interests are united by the common practice of Yoga. “A tree is inside a seed in a subtle form.
    When the seed is sown
the tree comes out in its gross form.
In the same way, all knowledge is already
in our mind and by doing Yoga
this knowledge comes out like a tree."
