Getting Here

From the Victoria area and the southern tip of Vancouver Island

Drive north on the Patricia Bay Highway (#17) to the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal (about a 40 minute drive from Victoria). See the Google Maps route If you are arriving at Victoria International Airport, the easiest option is to take a taxi from the airport to the Swartz Bay ferry terminal (about $25 including tip).

Take the ferry from Swartz Bay to Fulford Harbour (Salt Spring Island). These ferries runs every two hours from 7am to 9pm (a 35 minute ferry ride). See the Swartz Bay Ferry Schedule

Once on Salt Spring Island at Fulford Harbour, follow the main road north towards Ganges, turning left on Blackburn Road (about ten minutes drive). The Centre is on the left 1 km down Blackburn Road. From mid-Vancouver Island (Duncan, Nanaimo and north)

About a 30 minute drive south from Nanaimo is the Crofton Ferry Terminal. Ferries here run about every hour to Vesuvius on Salt Spring Island (a 20 minute ferry ride). Take the ferry from Crofton across to Vesuvius. See the Crofton Ferry Schedule

From Vancouver/Lower Mainland

To get to Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal:

By Car: From Vancouver head south on Oak Street to Highway 99 and follow the signs. Take Highway 99 to Highway 17. Travel southwest on Highway 17 to the Tsawwassen ferry terminal (about 40 minutes drive). See the Google Maps route
By Public Transit: From the Vancouver area take the Canada Line of the Sky Train (either headed to the YRV-Airport station or the Richmond-Brighouse station) to the Bridgeport Station (very frequent). Right outside of the Bridgeport station, take the 620 bus to the Tsawwassen ferry terminal (about 40 minutes). The 620 bus is timed to connect with the ferry and drops you right at the door of the ferry terminal. See the Google Maps Transit route

Once at the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal
There are two possible routes to Salt Spring Island:
1. Via Swartz Bay: More options are available by traveling from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay (1 hours 35 minutes), and transferring to take a second ferry from Swartz Bay to Fulford Harbour (35 minutes). This is quite easy and can take about the same amount of time as the direct ferry from Tsawwassen to Long Harbour as most direct ferries make several stops (see below). Be sure to purchase the “through fare via Swartz Bay” at Tsawwassen. A throughfare ticket offers a reduced rate but does NOT guarantee connecting service, so during peak times we recommend catching an earlier sailing from Tsawwassen to ensure that you make the connection with ease. Reservations are available on the Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay run only. When you reserve, pay the reservation fee only and then pay the remainder when you check in at Tsawwassen and request your throughfare ticket.

While this is a direct ferry (no transfer needed), sailings are infrequent – especially non-stop sailings – as most make three stops en route. This route can take from 1 hour 25 minutes to 3 hours, depending on how many stops it makes.
