Summary of the Offering

For anyone wanting to learn how to use yoga to heal their mind and body. Also for yoga teachers and health practitioners wanting to help their students and clients on their healing journey.

Ayurveda and Yoga are complementary sister sciences and when combined promote and nourish a deeper mind-body connection. A 5,000-year-old system of natural healing, Ayurveda has its roots in the Vedic culture of ancient India. Ayurveda, which literally means the science of life, teaches that health is in the balance state of one’s body, mind and soul. Ayurveda holds that each human possesses a unique combination of biological energies called the three Doshas. Learning to manage and balance one’s unique doshic constitution is the key to improving and sustaining optimum mental and physical well-being at any age.

These four, modular workshops, will cover Ayurveda basics and introduction, as well as, how breathing, meditation and asana can be used as medicine to help nourish our mind and body from physical and mental imbalances. We will breakdown dis-ease into the 5 elements and then into areas of excess air, bile, and mucus. We will learn how bringing pressure and stretching these areas of excess and the energetics in which we practice movement can dissipate the build-up and thereby dissipate the associated dis-ease.

Taken separately or as a series, these workshops will teach you how to use the various aspects of yoga, including movement, postures, breathing and mediation to help balance your doshas.

Even if you have only one predominant dosha, there is something to be learned from every module. It helps you to recognize if you are out of balance by the characteristics of each dosha that pop up for yourself. Additionally, understanding each dosha will help you better understand other people in your life.

Module 1: Introduction to Ayurveda

July 21st, 2020 | 6:00 to 8:00 PM PDT | $40

In this workshop, you’ll learn some basics of Ayurveda including:

  • What is Ayurveda and it’s principles
  • What are doshas, including the elements of each, where they ‘sit’ in the body and how they manifest in the body
  • Your Ayurvedic constitution by identifying your own doshas
  • The elemental theory of Ayurveda and how these qualities affect lifestyle, personality, foods and movement
  • More about the principle of like increases like to create harmony and balance within your own body

Module 2: Pacifying Pitta

July 28th, 2020 | 6:00 to 8:00 PM PDT | $40

For those who already have a basic understanding of Ayurveda, or for those who have complete Module 1, this workshop is geared to learning about and pacifying the Pitta dosha. Perfect as we enter the summer season.

In the first half of this workshop, you will be introduced to the theory and elements that will help bring Pitta into balance. This includes types of poses (including surrender and play), breathing practices and meditation options.

Putting this knowledge into practice, the last half of this workshop includes a yoga asana class specifically geared for pacifying pitta.


Module 3: Pacifying Vata

August 4th, 2020 | 6:00 to 8:00 PM PDT | $40

For those who already have a basic understanding of Ayurveda, or for those who have completed Module 1, this workshop examines the Vata dosha and how to stay grounded.

Starting with the theory and elements that will help bring Vata into balance, you will learn the types of poses (including staying grounded, moving slow, and keeping warm), as well as breathing practices and meditation options.

A yoga asana class for pacifying Vata will finish this workshop to anchor the practices in your body. This class will use typical yoga props (or home alternatives) and blankets. Details will be given in the registration package so you can set yourself up in advance.


Module 4: Pacifying Kapha

August 11th, 2020 | 6:00 to 8:00 PM PDT | $40

For those who already have a basic understanding of Ayurveda, or for those who have completed Module 1, this workshop explores the balancing of the Kapha dosha.

This workshop begins with the theory and elements that will help bring Kapha into balance, includes the types of poses (with focus on vigorous movement, connection and fun), breathing practices and meditation options.

A yoga asana class for pacifying Kapha will conclude this workshop in order to apply the knowledge in a meaningful way, and leave you feeling focused and with a sense of lightness.

Meet Your Instructor

JYOTI NATASHA SAMSON

CYA-RYT 200; Ay. HC

Jyoti is a graduate of the SSCY Yoga Teacher Training (200 hr) and teaches public, corporate, and private classes in the lower mainland. She also teaches at the Centre’s Yoga Getaways and retreats and is on faculty for the annual SSCY Yoga Teacher Training (200 hr).

Jyoti furthered her studies and obtained her Ayurveda Health Counselor Diploma at the Mount Madonna Institute College of Ayurveda under prominent Ayurveda physicians; Dr. Vassant Lad, Dr. John Doulliard, Dr. Sarita Shrestha, Dr. Suhas Kshirsagar among others. She completed her Ayurveda Massage Treatment Program under the guidance of Dr. Jaisri Lambert. Jyoti teaches Ayurveda at the Institute of Holistic Nutrition and offers private Ayurveda Consultations and Body Treatments/Massage. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Dharma Sara Satsang Society.
