Tensegrity Repair Series Basics

The Tensegrity Repair Series is a movement sequence designed by Gioia Irwin of Vancouver, BC, which focuses on tuning into the myofascial network of the body, and how it relates to our skeletal structure. Done mostly lying on the back, these movements help to tone and strengthen the core, breakdown knots and adhesions throughout the body, and rehydrate the fascia for greater joint mobility and overall balanced and connected body function. Relaxing, yet invigorating, the Tensegrity Repair Series can be helpful in recovery from injury, chronic pain, or stress related tension, and can also provide a stable base from which to grow your yoga or movement practice.

Restorative and Yoga Nidra

This class combines two powerful practices for calming the mind and relaxing the body: restorative yoga and yoga nidra. The first hour of class consists of restorative yoga, in which poses are held for several minutes at a time with support from props like blankets, bolsters, blocks, and straps. This invites the body to gently open and relax, and it helps the nervous system transition to a state in which the body and mind can process, rest, and renew in a deep way. The final half hour will consist of a brief yoga nidra practice. Yoga nidra (literally ‘yogic sleep’) is a practice done lying down, and it involves various body awareness and visualization techniques. Students are guided right to the edge of sleep while still remaining fully conscious. The result can be a sense of deep relaxation and calm, and yoga nidra serves as a great way for those unfamiliar with meditation to get a taste of some of its profound effects.
